Allergy season is back. Here’s how to stay ahead.

The birds are chirping, the weather is warming, and seasonal allergies are coming out of hibernation. Nearly 1 in 4 adults are affected by seasonal allergies each year. Below are a few quick tips and tricks to help combat common symptoms, but if they start to worsen or interfere with daily routines, it may be a sign that additional support is needed. Learn more about how Advanced Home Care can help.

  1. Minimize Exposure
    • Check out the pollen forecast before heading out. On high pollen days (especially dry, windy ones), try to stay indoors when you can
    • Keep windows closed at home and in the car, AC is your friend here!
    • When you come inside, change your clothes and rinse off to avoid bringing pollen with you
    • If you’re gardening or doing yard work, wear gloves or a mask—or skip peak pollen times altogether
    • Skip air-drying clothes or bedding outside, pollen loves to stick to fabric
  2. Medications and Quick Fixes
    • Antihistamines can help take the edge off symptoms (just watch for drowsiness)
    • Nasal sprays are great for congestion, sneezing, and inflammation
    • Eye drops can calm itchy, watery eyes quickly
    • A simple saline rinse can help flush out pollen and clear your sinuses
    • HEPA air filters can make a noticeable difference indoors—just remember to change them regularly
  3. Longer Term Support
    • Allergy shots (immunotherapy) can reduce symptoms over time, but they do require consistency
    • Foods rich in quercetin and vitamin C may help support your body’s response during allergy season
    • If over-the-counter options aren’t cutting it, it’s worth checking in with your doctor or an allergist for next steps
