GAFC Newsletter, Q4 2025
As October comes to an end, it’s a good time to prepare to “fall back”. On November 2, Daylight Saving Time ends and the clocks are turned back one hour.
The time change can be more than simply adjusting the clocks. A shift in daylight and daily routines can sometimes affect sleep, mood, medication schedules, meals, and activity levels. Taking a few simple steps can make the transition easier.

Here are a few simple ways to prepare:
Check Your Clocks
Remember to turn clocks back one hour before going to bed on Saturday, November 1. Don’t forget clocks on appliances, cars, and other devices that may not update automatically.
Keep Medications on Schedule
If you take medications at specific times, continue following your prescribed schedule. If you’re unsure how the time change affects your routine, speak with your healthcare provider or pharmacist.
Maintain a Consistent Sleep Routine
Try to go to bed and wake up around the same time each day. Getting natural light during the morning can also help your body adjust to the change.
Make the Most of Daylight
With darkness arriving earlier, plan outdoor activities and errands during daylight hours when possible. Even a short walk or time outdoors can support physical activity and well-being.
Think About Home Safety
Earlier sunsets mean less natural light in the evening. Make sure hallways, stairways, bathrooms, and entrances are well lit. Keep pathways clear to help reduce the risk of trips and falls.
Don’t Forget Your Loved Ones
The time change is also a good opportunity to check in on older family members, friends, and neighbors. A quick phone call or visit can help ensure they are adjusting comfortably and have what they need for the darker evenings.
At Advanced Home Care Services, our caregivers help older adults maintain their daily routines and remain safe and comfortable at home. From companionship and mobility support to medication reminders and assistance with daily activities, having an extra helping hand can provide valuable peace of mind for older adults and their families.
This fall, take a moment to reset your clocks and check in on the people who matter most.
